A taller, more statuesque companion to our rounded Satsuma jar — this piece uses the classic Chinese “general’s jar” (jiangjun guan) silhouette, reimagined in Japanese Satsuma taste.
A continuous frieze of kimono-clad beauties wraps the tapering body: figures in layered robes of red, teal, indigo and black, each with ornate hair ornaments and obi, set against painted pines, maples and garden plants. Raised gilt outlines trace every figure and flower. The domed lid carries a pointed finial and a miniature painted landscape, while a ruyi-petaled band rings the foot.
At 16 cm tall and only 9.5 cm wide, it reads as a slender display urn rather than a storage jar — ideal when you want Japanese decor but don’t have the shelf depth for a wide belly piece.
