A fine pair of antique Chinese blue and white (qinghua) porcelain ginger jars, each of baluster / ovoid form with a waisted lower body, sweeping shoulder and short neck, covered by a fitted domed lid topped with a pointed, bud-shaped finial.
The warm ivory body is densely painted in rich underglaze cobalt blue with scrolling peony and chrysanthemum vines, centered on a bold and sharply rendered “囍” (Double Happiness) character reserved to the front — the traditional emblem of wedded bliss, repeated on the cover. Key-fret (huiwen) and scrolling-plantain borders neatly articulate the shoulder, foot and lid rim, with a band of small florals circling the neck.
The deep, slightly muted cobalt against an aged glaze is characteristic of early-to-mid 20th century Chinese export / provincial wares made for auspicious bridal and domestic use.
Offered as a matching pair, these jars bring a classic blue-and-white anchor to a china cabinet, bookshelf, mantel or entryway console — and make a genuinely collectible gift for weddings, anniversaries or Asian-art enthusiasts.
